The Joy of Art: Reflections After My Solo Show

Updated: Jul 10

A Heartfelt Thank You to All Supporters

I didn’t vanish — I’ve just been pressing pause after a beautiful, joy-filled artist reception and talk for my solo show Free 2 Be Me at the Joan Hisaoka Gallery.

To say it was special would be an understatement. The atmosphere that night felt sacred. The energy, laughter, and deep breaths intertwined with tears and conversations sparked by color and canvas. It reminded me once again that art truly matters. Not just to me, but also to the lives of others.

The Connection Through Art

Art connects us — to ourselves, to each other, and to something larger than ourselves. It has a unique way of breaking down barriers. I was humbled and awed to hear how specific pieces moved people. The stories I thought were personal echoed universal truths that we all carry. Concepts like healing, joy, loss, and becoming are shared experiences. We are more alike than we are different. My artwork offered those powerful emotions a place to land.

Grateful for Each Encounter

I am so grateful to every single person who came out to support me — both in person and online. To those who stood by my side, asked vulnerable questions, and hugged me tightly. To those who simply observed the work with quiet reverence — thank you. Your presence affirmed that creating from the heart matters.

Processing the Experience

After such an emotional whirlwind, I needed a couple of days to rest, breathe, and process everything. The love, pride, and creative energy were overwhelming. But don’t worry; I’ll be back soon! I look forward to sharing more behind-the-scenes stories from the show. There’s also new work in progress to unveil and various ways for us to connect.

The Impact of Art on Life

Art doesn't just exist in a vacuum. It interacts with viewers, provoking thought, eliciting emotions, and connecting stories. Each piece has its own journey, yet they all contribute towards a collective narrative. Through my experiences at the exhibition, I realized anew that connection. It’s a reminder that creativity is not just about self-expression; it's about dialogue with the world.

The dialogue continues. I hope you will join me as I delve deeper into the inspirations for my artwork and the experiences that shape it. Together, we’ll explore not only my creative process but also the joy and struggles that art often embodies.

An Invitation to Engage

I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences related to art. It's fascinating to hear how different pieces resonate with people in different ways. What does art mean to you? How has it impacted your life?

Your stories inspire me to keep creating. Remember, not only do your experiences matter, but they enrich the broader narrative we share as artists and audiences.

Until then — thank you, truly. My heart is full. 💛

Stay tuned for more updates and reflections on this journey.
