Two Reasons to Celebrate: Art, Opportunity, and New Connections

Some weeks bring quiet progress. Others arrive carrying the kind of news that makes you stop, take a breath, and perform a very enthusiastic happy dance in the middle of the studio.

This has been one of those weeks.

I am thrilled to share two opportunities that may look different on the surface but are deeply connected to the same purpose: using art to create connection, spark conversation, and remind people of what is possible.

Selected for Teeny Tiny Trifecta at Second Street Gallery

My work has been selected for the Teeny Tiny Trifecta group exhibition at Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, Virginia, this September.

I am absolutely delighted.

There is something wonderfully playful about an exhibition devoted to small works. A painting does not have to be large to carry energy, emotion, or meaning. Sometimes a smaller format draws us closer and asks us to notice the details we might otherwise miss.

Being selected for this exhibition is meaningful to me for several reasons. Second Street Gallery has long been a space I admire, and Charlottesville is a community where I hope to continue building relationships and expanding the reach of my work.

This opportunity represents more than recognition. It is a chance to meet new people, enter new conversations, and allow my paintings to connect with viewers beyond the walls of my own studio.

I will share more about the selected artwork and opening reception as the exhibition approaches. For now, I am simply allowing myself to celebrate this next step.

Sharing How Art Connects, Inspires, and Transforms

I am had the privilege to speak with the Chantilly/Centreville Rotary Club on Tuesday.

My presentation, Where Wonder Finds a Way: How Art Connects, Inspires, and Transforms, explored the role art can play in our individual lives, workplaces, and communities.

After thirty years as an educator, I have seen firsthand how creativity encourages curiosity, builds confidence, strengthens problem-solving, and helps people connect across differences. I have also experienced the power of art personally—as a place of healing, resilience, discovery, and renewal.

During the presentation, I invited the audience to look closely at a painting and consider how people can experience the same artwork in completely different ways. That simple act of noticing opens a much larger conversation about perspective, interpretation, creativity, and human connection.

I also shared a little about my intuitive painting process and the role play continues to have in my work. Play is not frivolous. It is how we experiment, take risks, discover unexpected solutions, and remain open to possibility.

The opportunity to bring these ideas into a community conversation feels deeply aligned with who I am as an artist, educator, and speaker.

Two Opportunities, One Guiding Belief

At first glance, a gallery exhibition and a Rotary Club presentation might seem like entirely separate experiences.

One places artwork on a gallery wall. The other places ideas into a room full of people.

But to me, they are part of the same story.

Both create opportunities for people to pause, notice, feel, question, and connect. Both allow art to move beyond the studio and become part of a larger conversation. Both reflect my belief that art matters because people matter.

A painting can begin a conversation between strangers. A story can help someone see creativity differently. A shared moment of wonder can soften assumptions and remind us that we are connected in more ways than we realize.

That is the work I want to continue doing. And these are absolutely two reasons to celebrate!

What Comes Next

The next several months are filled with meaningful opportunities, including my upcoming solo exhibition at VECCA and the first public experience of my new series, Through Me: Where Wonder Finds a Way.

There is much happening behind the scenes that I am not quite ready to reveal. For now, I am celebrating each step and remaining grateful for every person, organization, collector, and community that makes space for the work.

These moments remind me that growth does not always arrive through one enormous leap. Often, it comes through a series of doors opening—one connection, one conversation, and one courageous step at a time.

I am excited to see where these opportunities lead.
